The companies and websites listed here are, by many reports a bit less than good. A lot of the details here are basically just opinion, but opinion nevertheless.
The idea of this site is a great one. It basically claims to be customer reviews and complaints about companies. The site then goes on to say that their aim is for consumer justice and not let guilty companies off with providing bad or insufficient service.
So all good so far, in fact it sounds great. It just seems like a site for consumer justice. But then we started looking a bit closer at the detail of what seems to be going on!
The problem is that if there is a false report added to the site, it will never be removed. Although the company themselves can file a comment in reply to the bad review, the review will remain. This is not good, especially if it is not even true. I know that there are sites with the opposite problem, in that they will remove things if you are willing to sponsor them(!) but I think that the RipoffReport make it too easy to lie.
The site offers a service to companies to help them deal with bad reports, but this service comes at a rather hefty charge and then monthly retainer. There has also been not a few stories about how they have internally created bad reviews to force companies into using their intermediary bad review service.
The problem for companies is that some of the search engines seem to favour the RipoffReport, meaning that when you search for the name of the company, you get results from the RipoffReport, which results in bad publicity, at least sometimed wrongly placed bad publicity.
So, good idea, badly done.It has recently come to light that they have admitted what was already reasonably clear - they favour the paying companies in the rankings. There is much more that can be said, but that is sufficient!
